Exclusive Interview: Two-Minutes with Trina

Katrina ‘Trina’ Taylor has a catalogue of songs that could make a pornstar blush. The Miami beauty first defiled our auditory canals thirteen-years ago on the Trick Daddy hit ”Nann N**ga” and has since built on that legacy with a catalogue of sordid songs that include “Da Baddest Bitch”, “Dang-A-Lang” and “Good Pussy”.

Now the Diamond Princess has plans to make even more people blush with Amazin’ cosmetics - a company she launched last year alongside her album of the same name. The 32 year-old rapper recently sat with Rhyme & Reason Magazine to discuss this foray into cosmetics and her key rule for protecting the Trina brand.

Check out our short Q&A after the jump:

How did the opportunity to create the Amazin’ Cosmetics line come about?
It was something that I thought would be fun and fresh for my fans and supporters to enjoy from Trina. As both a woman and an entertainer, I love to get glammed up – so starting my own line only felt natural to do.

You’ve rolled-out lip wear and eye lash products. What’s next?
I plan to expand the line to the max. I think cosmetics is something fun and girly for all women to enjoy. We all love products that make us feel confident and sexy, and this line was created for those reasons.

How involved are you in product development?
I’m actually hands-on with the development of all of my products - especially the cosmetic line. It feels good to be a part of the creative side because in the past I’ve only been able to make decisions in the final stages of product [development].

You obviously see some sort of hole in the cosmetics market. What void are you looking to fill?
I just want to introduce something new and exciting that stands-out. For instance, I’ve created the lashes with crystals on them which is truly amazin!

You’ve spent a decade carefully nurturing your brand through music. How cautious are you about associating yourself with ventures outside of music?
I try to always be careful and mindful when it comes to my brand as an entertainer or as an entrepreneur. You truly must have a professional mindset in [whatever] industry you are in. It is about learning and knowing the business that you are venturing into. That’s most important!
