Exclusive Interview: Styles P

June 25th, 2010 | By Big Dom

Interview by The Journalista

Hip-hop should be so honored to have rapper/lyricist/storyteller Styles P in its corner. For years now Styles P [aka The Ghost] has blessed rhyme lovers with his vivid flows and verses. On his latest mixtape, Ghost Dub-Dime, his street-wise lyrics continue taking listeners on a gritty journey through life with its grimey emotions of swag, dirty deals and struggles of day-to-day living.

And now, in extension to his beautiful street rhymes, Styles P has added the title of “Author” to his hustle palette. With a fresh book deal under Random House, his first novel Invincible [accompanied by its equally explosive soundtrack - featuring appearances from Sheek Louch and additional LOX fam] has just landed on store shelves and is the first of many fictional street tales to come from the urban griot.

Morning After a Wolfpack Party

May 20th, 2010 | By Big Dom

After taking over the airwaves with their breakout track “Vans” [and being named #5 in the Rolling Stone’s list of Top 50 songs for that year], The Pack have returned with a new anthem titled “Wolfpack Party” - off their forthcoming album of the same name.

The Bay Area hip-hop group were discovered by Hip Hop legend Too $hort, who signed them to Jive Records. They released an album and an EP with the label, quickly achieving a large following for their unique and edgy sound created by in-house producer and group member Young L.

Check out what it’s like the morning after a “Wolfpack Party” in this new short clip from the band [above].

Let’s be clear; Rhys Darby is a comic genius. And in an unexpected pairing, HP has linked this genius with his musical counterpart, Dr Dre, in a commercial for the company’s Let’s Do Amazing campaign - Rhys being the campaign’s protagonist. Former Shady/Aftermath artist Stat Quo also makes a cameo appearance.

I’ve included another commercial from the Let’s Do Amazing campaign, as well as a short interview with Rhys Darby, after the jump. (more…)

OutKast’s Big Boi is on the brink of releasing his solo album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, and has teamed-up with Too $hort and George Clinton for the latest song to drop from the album - “Fo Yo Sorrows”. The video is directed by none other than acclaimed Hip-Hop photographer Zach Wolfe and the Dirty Doc [and was no doubt shot on a Canon 5D Mark II... which I am desparate to get my hands on].

B.o.B has come a fair way since his first feature in Rhyme & Reason Magazine back in 2007. And while it was clear he had that special something from our first listen of “Cloud 9″, B.o.B’s official single “Nothing On You” [featuring Bruno Mars] from his forthcoming album [B.o.B presents The Adventures of Bobby Ray] is well on its way to convincing the rest of the world that he is the real deal. Check out the song’s official music video above - which officially dropped a couple of hours ago.

Statement from D’Angelo’s Management

March 9th, 2010 | By Big Dom

After being arrested in New York on 6th March for allegedly soliciting an undercover police officer for sex, D’Angelo’s management have gone into damage control mode, yesterday emailing out the following statement:

“We know there is a lot of speculation in regard to the arrest of D’Angelo in New York City this past weekend. We would like his fans and the public at large to know that D’Angelo has pled not guilty — and is contesting the allegations made against him. Also know that, he is in good health and extremely excited about his forthcoming new album.

D’Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions.”
